GSM/3G network in Lärz
Re: GSM/3G network in Lärz
Vodafone Germany has shutdown MMS Service already in 2023. Now Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica Germany followed July 1, 2026. So only RCS and messenger services are supported from now on.
If your communication partners were connected to Vodafone's towers, they weren't able to receive any MMS already this year.

Umm this was from a 4G phone. Speaking a sound file in, assumedly sent as an MMS. Are we speaking abt the same thing?tommy381 hat geschrieben: Sa 4. Yes. Vodafone Germany shut down MMS in 2023, the other 3 operators on June 30th, as stated. Doesnt have to do with 3G shutdown which happened years ago.irrelevant hat geschrieben: So 5. And yes, 2G/3G shutdown is necessary to make room for more powerful transmission standards, i.e. 5G. I'm sorry, but it just doesnt make sense to still support power-hungry 2G and 3G for a small minority.
Re: GSM/3G network in Lärz
The whole MMS service in Germany has been shutdown by now.
This said, you won't be able to send and receive MMS here anymore, no matter what kind of phone or carrier you have.
It includes the latest 4G / 5G phone models as well.

Thanks both for clarifying this -- but OMFG?! The level of frustration.tommy381 hat geschrieben: So 5. Jul 2026, 01:21 The whole MMS service in Germany has been shutdown by now.

For communication, there are 4G pensioneer´s mobile phones available that lool like the old Nokia phones and have no smart feature. For sending pictures... yes you need a smartphone - or, you take pictures with a camera and send them to some one from your computer at home, when you arrie thereirrelevant hat geschrieben: So 5. It includes the latest 4G / 5G phone models as well.So now you HAVE to use a smartphone to communicate decently, and even to send a simple picture?? That's just insane. Fuck that (even more). Pardon the French.

Re: GSM/3G network in Lärz
Yeah, that's what I got. Going so much back in evolution it's sickening. But maybe I should clarify what I mean w/ "decent communication": Sending sound files as MMS, at the very LEAST lasting a minute, AND pictures. Sometimes even both in one. Which I've been able to since 2008 on my 3G phone ... along w/ a myriad basic functions I now don't have anymore. Meaning we are indeed being forced to use a smartphone to continue doing things possible nearly 20 yrs ago. That absolutely enfuriates me. They can stick their smartphones. Well, thanks everyone for at least providing me w/ the knowledge of what I'll be facing ahead.Knülli hat geschrieben: So 5. Re: GSM/3G network in Lärz
Why?! MMS never picked up in Germany because they were always very expensive and never included in any subscription plans. 39 ct for up to 300 KB. THAT'S insane. I don't know a single person that willingly sent an MMS, all I ever received were sent by mistake. Switzerland also shutdown MMS years ago.irrelevant hat geschrieben: So 5. I'm sorry, but technology is progressing. You just can't sustain all services for all time. Nobody is coming to Fusion by horse carriage, neither.
And what do you mean by "pensioner's phone"? Most older people were still significantly younger when touchscreen phones emerged and are using them like anyone else. You probably mean a feature phone aka dumbphone. I even had Skype on my old Nokia N79.
Speaking for today, all dumbphones that support messenger apps (especially Signal) are Android based and just smartphones with buttons. But it seems like feature phones start supporting RCS as well, so that's probably the route you should take:

There are some dumb phones that are specifically made for seniors and that contain zero smart options. That´s, what meant here.Raetselspass hat geschrieben: Mo 6. Jul 2026, 09:34Why?! Re: GSM/3G network in Lärz
I know. But that's BS IMHO. Senior citizens use iPhones & Co. exactly like us younger peepz. The big displays are even beneficial, so there are plenty of touchscreen phones especially for the elderly (or generally people with impaired vision).
