@V-sie komen & dicker02

Ich will die "90€ or more"-Option nicht weiter promoten.

Kleiner Spendenmarathon via Website Ende September. Das wäre doch was!

Also her mit nem Spendenkonto.

For the english spoken crowd;

### english version ###

Dear Fusionists,
Well, it’s August again and high time for our annual round up. So, before
the memories fade, we’d like to say a few words about this year’s
festival.
Looking back on the festival itself, we can say it was a truly incredible
18th birthday. The weather was pretty much perfect – apart from on the
Saturday night – you were a wonderfully chilled out crowd, we were better
equipped and organised than ever before, and everything went so smoothly
that a few of us were left wondering where the action was. In addition to
the usual suspects, there were plenty of new things to discover around the
site: giant flowers, fire-breathing dragons, smoke machines, circular 3D
illuminations and lots of hidden places to sneak off to. We were
particularly impressed that, for the first time, thousands of you made the
night-time trek over to Casbah am See to witness the extraordinary
performance there.
The toilet and shower situation was more relaxed than in previous years and
all around the site the queues were much more bearable. The new compost
toilets were a little hidden away, but those that discovered them had their
best festival toilet experience ever. Once again, we succeeded in
engineering a complex system to supply fresh, clean water to the entire
festival site. Nowhere was ever too full and there was ample space for
dancing and chilling. The only thing that was noticeable was that the DRK
troubleshooting squad, Eclipse, and our security had much less to do than
in previous years.
We would like to extend our special thanks to all those makers and doers
who contributed their hard work, creativity and time to make the festival
happen. Without you, there is no Fusion.
As we mentioned in our last newsletter, this year we faced our greatest
challenge since Fusion began. We knew that if we didn’t solve the
overcrowding problem and stop large numbers of people breaking in without
tickets, it might spell the end of the entire Kulturkosmos project. This
issue weighed on our minds a lot in the run-up to the festival. A “no
ticket – no entry” policy, with two barriers, barbed wire and a big
security team to back it up, seemed like the only option. We debated the
issue over and over again and hardly anyone, including ourselves, liked the
decision we took.
Looking back, we can now say, despite all arguments to the contrary… it
was the right choice. There were far fewer festivalgoers this year because
it was limited to those with tickets and, for us, the festival was the best
and most relaxed Fusion in years. This was also the impression that we got
from those of you we talked to, and all the different crews.
We had worried beforehand about trouble between gatecrashers and security,
but these were few and far between in the end. The token system at the
different entry points worked well and didn’t seem to cause too much
hassle. Another big thing was that we did not have a single serious hand
injury this year – by the Thursday of last year’s festival we had 30,
some of which life-long. This alone is enough to settle the issue and
justify the measures we took.
At this point we would like to thank those who did not get a ticket and
stayed at home. You saved yourselves and us a lot of trouble.
That festivalgoers and crew found the festival to be much more relaxed this
year is certainly down to the fact that there were around 15,000 fewer
people than last year. This number also explains the reduced takings at the
bars and stands. It also shows that we were not exaggerating when we
estimated that 10,000 people came without a ticket in 2013 – the
remaining 5,000 being those that did not come despite having a ticket or
cancelled their tickets at the last minute without nominating anyone to
take them.
One thing that did not improve this year is our financial situation. We
don’t want to moan; it was clear from the beginning that money was going
to be tight, even with the hike in the ticket price. But we want take this
opportunity to explain how this happened. In August 2013 we did an early
pre-sale for the 2014 festival to ensure that we would be able to tick over
until the end of the year. We sold 7,500 of the 60,000 tickets and by the
end of 2013 had spent almost all of that money. The remaining 52,500
tickets were allocated in the ballots in December and February.
Our decision not to sell a single ticket at the festival nor to allocate
shifts for the Job Centre (Arbeitsamt) on site was important in sending a
clear message to all those thinking about travelling to the festival
without a ticket.
But there were downsides.
As the number of cancellations and people who travel to the festival
without tickets varies a lot from year to year, it is extremely difficult
to work out how many tickets need to go into the ballot so that we finish
up with 60,000 paid tickets. This year 11,000 pre-paid tickets were
cancelled – 30% more than in 2013. Of the people who cancelled, only
6,500 put forward someone to take their ticket, and only two thirds of
those paid for a ticket and came to the festival. Some of the remaining
cancelled tickets went to people who had signed up with the Job Centre and
others who initially only received the ticket as a PDF. In short, we sold
almost 5,000 fewer tickets than last year and had to pay back €1,100,000
for cancelled tickets. We have therefore decided to charge a cancellation
fee in future.
The project to improve the security of the site (with a new barrier, extra
security, lighting, etc.) came to around €270,000 in the end, much more
than we expected. The German state-authorized performance rights
organization, GEMA, is demanding over €390,000 for 2013 and 2014, and as
you can imagine the rest of the festival is not getting any cheaper. To put
it bluntly, we’re out of dough and, before the end of the year, we’ll
show you where it all went.
For now, we’ll have to borrow a huge chunk of cash or (which would like
to avoid) organise another early pre-sale in September. We will keep you up
to date with any developments, but that’s it for the financial side of
things...
Here on the Kulturkosmos site the grass has grown back lush and green, and
everything’s calm again. Over the coming weeks a few youth camps will
take place here and we will continue to diligently collect up all the
rubbish. As there is no At.tension Festival this year, we can have a bit of
a breather to enjoy the summer and keep our ears pricked and eyes pealed
for novelties to present at next year’s festival.
The dates:
Fusion - Festival 2015 **** 25 – 28 June 2015
at.tension - Festival 2015 **** 3 – 6 September 2015

Enjoy the rest of the summer,
Your Fusion Crew

tl;dr
